Adam Harris Bernstein, 55, a private criminal defense attorney and resident of Bedford, NH, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, after courageously battling cancer for more than six years.
Adam is survived by his beloved wife, Darci (Whitehouse) Bernstein; his cherished daughter, Zoe Bernstein; his mother, Eve (Shpritz) Fischer; his brothers, Todd and Eric Bernstein; as well as uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Born in Silver Spring, MD, on September 4, 1969, Adam was the son of Rob Bernstein and Eve (Shpritz) Fischer. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1991, followed by a Master of Arts from Duquesne University in 1995. In 1998, he received his Juris Doctor from Franklin Pierce Law School.
Adam began his legal career as a public defender in 1999. In 2006, he co-founded the law firm Bernstein, Bartis & Mello, where his sharp legal mind, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to justice became the heart of the practice. When the firm evolved into Bernstein & Mello, PLLC in 2011, Adam continued to be dedicated and diligent for his clients for the remainder of his career.
Above all, Adam was a devoted husband and father. He took immense pride in caring for Zoe—helping with her homework, watching their favorite shows together, and cheering her on at dance performances and crew events. Family dinners were important to him always ending with a sweet treat which included taking Zoe for ice cream at his go-to spot Dairy Queen for a Reese’s blizzard.
Adam had a lifelong love of travel, with frequent visits to his favorite spots in Arizona, Aruba and Florida. He was committed to his health, running marathons for many years, working out daily on his Cybex and maintaining a disciplined routine. At home, he enjoyed swimming in his pool, tending to the yard, and spending time with his three dachshunds, who brought him endless happiness.
