Albert J. Desmarais Sr., 73, of Manchester, died March 5, 2003, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Manchester, December 6, 1929, he was the son of Cyprien and Regina (Belanger) Desmarais. He was a lifelong resident of this city.
Mr. Desmarais worked in the shoe industry for 30 years. He had been employed by Dorson & Fleisher Shoe Co. He retired from Harvey Industries where he worked as a saw operator for several years.
He was a drummer and rhythm guitar player in several country bands including Cool Country, Country Five, and East Coast Country Express.
He was an avid fisherman and New York Yankees fan.
Family members include his wife of 53 years, Irene (Couturier) Desmarais of Manchester; 2 sons, Albert J. Desmarais Jr. of Manchester, and Robert A. Desmarais of Goffstown; 4 daughters, Diane Iverson of Litchfield, Donna Morse of Weare, Janice Laventure of Auburn, and Jo-Ann Cruise of Waynesville, MO; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Ovila Desmarais of Manchester; 2 sisters, Cyprienne Gosselin of Manchester, and Lucille Martel of Hooksett; many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday March 8, 2003 in St. Marie Church, Notre Dame Ave., Manchester. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery.
