Albert F. Nettel, 81, of Manchester, died August 1, 2018 after a brief illness.
Born in Manchester on August 5, 1936, he was the son of Frank and Agnes (Rogers) Nettel. He was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, class of 1954, and earned his bachelor's degree from University of New Hampshire. He served in the US Army National Guard and was honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant in 1966.
Albert spent over 42 years as a staff reporter for The Manchester Union Leader, retiring in 2001. During that time, he covered news and events of Manchester City Hall, school board and sports, as well as Volvo tennis tournaments. He also had his own column, "View from the Press Box," and was the author of three children's books.
Albert enjoyed time spent at Foxwoods, greyhound racing, and at Hampton beach. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. He also spent time volunteering at the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry. Albert was a very caring, compassionate and generous man with a great sense of humor and quick wit. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Family includes his wife of 46 years, Patricia A. (Sweeney) Nettel of Manchester; one daughter, Mary S. Wade and husband Matthew of Manchester; and one granddaughter, Meghan A. Wade of Manchester.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Church,14 Elm St., Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry, 14 Elm St., Manchester, NH 03103.
