Alfred L. Jannetta

Rev. Alfred L. Jannetta, 64, of Manchester, died December 22, 2005, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 1, 1941 in Lowell, Massachusetts and was the son of Joseph and Olga (Lombardi) Jannetta. He was ordained a priest at Saint Joseph Cathedral on May 6, 1967 by the Most Reverend Ernest J. Primeau, sixth Bishop of Manchester. He pursued ecclesiastical studies at St. Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Father Jannetta served as associate pastor at St. Anthony Parish in Sanbornville; Blessed Sacrament in Manchester; St. Paul Parish in Franklin; St. Denis Parish in Hanover; St. Patrick Parish in Nashua; St. Joseph Parish in Salem and, Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Merrimack. In June 1980, Bishop Gendron appointed him as pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Wilton. In 1989, he assumed pastoral responsibility for the care of the infirmed in various hospitals and nursing homes in Concord and Manchester while residing at Sacred Heart rectory in Manchester and at St. Elizabeth Seton rectory in Bedford. He also resided at the Bishop Peterson Residence in Manchester.

He served as a chaplain to the incarcerated in local jails and prisons. He also provided pastoral assistance at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Bedford and at other parishes in the greater Manchester area.

Family members include his mother of Pawtucket, R.I.; two brothers, Joseph A. Janetta and Edward J. Jannetta, both of Rhode Island; nieces and nephews.

Most Reverend John B. McCormack, Bishop of Manchester, presided at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Cathedral on Tuesday, January 3, 2006. Burial was private in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, R.I.

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., was in charge of arrangements.
