Alfred P. Legro, 76, of Bedford, died February 5, 2017 at Catholic Medical Center after a period of declining health.
He was born in Salem, MA on November 20, 1940 to Wilbur and Barbara (Berry) Legro. He grew up and lived in Danvers, MA before moving to Bedford in 1975. He attended West Point Prep and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961.
Alfred was the proud owner of Allegro's Supermarkets, a local chain of food stores in southern New Hampshire from 1978 to 1991. He later became the owner and operator of Vestmoore Management Incorporated.
Alfred was very active with youth hockey in the area which included being a tournament director and a coach for the Manchester Regional Youth Hockey Association. He was an avid golfer and loved visiting his home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Al also enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family.
The family includes his wife of 55 years, Lois A. (Gould) Legro of Bedford; three sons, Keith A. Legro and his wife, Tricia, of Pembroke, Jeffrey A. Legro and his wife, Gretchen, of Brentwood and Alfred P. Legro III and his wife, Jennifer, of Bedford; six grandchildren, Emily, Hailey, Jackson, Lucie, Porter and Connor; two siblings, Nancy Legro and her husband, Donald Johnson, of Goffstown and David Legro and his wife, Shi-Wen, of Manchester; one uncle and aunt and cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony was held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. Spring burial will be at Bedford Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
