Alfred J. Robillard

Alfred J. Robillard, 91, of Manchester, died December 19, 2008 at the VA Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born in Derry, NH, on February 6, 1917, the son of Arthur J. and Stella (Girouard) Robillard.

Alfred enlisted in the US Army in 1941 and held the rank of 1st Sgt at the time of his honorable discharge in 1945. During WWII, he earned numerous awards including the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and two Battle Stars from fighting in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign.

Prior to retirement, he had been employed with Carpenter's Union Local 625.

He was a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He recently received an award for his tireless devotion to aiding other local veterans. He had been recognized by the VA Medical Center in Manchester for the 17,500 hours he spent volunteering to help others over the past 35 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Jeannette (Gamache) Robillard in 1991.

Family members include one daughter, Anne Komisar and her husband Roy Komisar of Bristol, NH; two sons, Richard B. Robillard and his wife Betty Robillard of Hooksett, and Raymond N. Robillard of Manchester; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 in St. Catherine Church, corner of Hemlock and Webster Streets. Burial with military honors followed in St. Augustin Cemetery, So. Beech St, Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the VA Medical Center, 718 Smyth Rd., Manchester, NH 03104.
