Alice A. Looney

Alice A. Looney, 85, of Manchester died June 15, 2011 at a local nursing home after a period of declining health.

She was born in Manchester on November 19, 1925, the daughter of George B. and Agnes C. (Griffin) Looney. She was educated in the local school system and graduated from Manchester High School Central, class of 1944.

She had been employed for several years with various local finance companies. She had worked 12 years with Manchester Savings Bank in the consumer credit department and retired after 22 years as bookkeeper for the City Fuel Co., a company founded by her father and Patrick Kelliher in 1936. She was a former member of the Derryfield Country Club, Sacred Heart Associates, Catholic Daughters of America, and the St. Catherine Parish Ladies Guild.

She was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church for over 50 years.

She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Alice A. Kowynia of Manchester; one brother, Denis J. Looney of Bedford; and other nieces, a nephew and several grand-nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in St. Catherine Church. Urn burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 484 Donald St, Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Road, Manchester, NH 03105.
