Anita Marchesseault

Sister Anita Marchesseault, CSC (Sister Mary Nere) died December 18, 2011 at Holy Cross Health Care Center after a long illness.

Sister Anita was born in Plainfield, CT, on June 15, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Rose (Brault) Marchesseault.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1933 and made her final profession in 1940. She served the Congregation for 77 years.

Sister Anita earned a BM from Laval University, Qc; a MM from Boston University and a DMA from Boston University. Sister Anita also received a degree in Sacred Music from St. Benoit-du- Lac, Qc. She taught music in schools in the Province of Quebec for 17 years and at Notre Dame College, Manchester, NH for 50 years. Sister Anita served for several years on the Liturgical Committee of the Diocese of Manchester, NH. Before retiring to St. George Manor in Manchester, NH, in 2003, she gave private piano lessons and was also organist at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Manchester, NH.

Sister Anita will be remembered for her great love of music and her dedication to her students.

Sister Anita is survived by her sister, Mrs. Bella Sherlock from Hampton, NH and two nieces and a nephew.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the chapel of St. George Manor. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
