Anton 'Tony' Webber, 95, of Manchester, NH formerly of Winchester, MA died July 15, 2021 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Slovenia on January 21, 1926 and served in the British Royal Air Force during World War II. He emigrated to the United States in the 1950's and married Marianne Lewinsky in 1963. He was predeceased by his wife, Marianne 'Mia' in 2001.
Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a skilled machinist and tool maker for many years. After his retirement, he used his machinist ingenuity around his home to make little repairs and tools. Tony's real hobby and passion was working in the garden, growing both flowers and vegetables. Throughout the summer, there were always plenty of beans, lettuce, cucumbers and, of course, tomatoes at the dinner table.
In his later years, Tony enjoyed walking, playing rummy with his family, poker with his friends at Birch Hill Terrace, watching the Red Sox (although sometimes it was not as enjoyable as he wanted), listening to classical music and cooking. No holiday gathering was ever without 'spitzbuben' cookies and an Austrian Linzer torte, both of which he learned to bake from Mia's handwritten home recipes.
Family members include his sons, Richard Michael Webber and wife Stephanie Jo of Brookline, MA, Peter Webber and wife Carol of Auburn, NH; and his grandson, Matthew Webber and wife Taylor of Chester, NH.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday 20th July at St. Mary's Church, Winchester, MA at 11 am. Following the Mass, there will be lunch reception at Café Escadrille in Burlington, MA. Burial will be next to his beloved Mia in Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either the New Hampshire Food Bank or CASA of New Hampshire.
