Antonio G.J. “Jerry the Cobbler” Baillargeon, 88, of Manchester died October 15, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Lawrence, MA on September 19, 1936, to Antonio & Mabel (Huot) Baillargeon. Jerry moved to Manchester to work for Leavitt’s Department Store in 1960 as a cobbler, prior to opening and operating Elm St. Shoe Repair for over 3 decades.
Jerry enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles in his younger years, was an avid cribbage player, and loved reading the Union Leader Newspaper daily, always with a black cup of coffee and a donut in his hand.
He was a devoted member of the Washington Masonic Lodge #61 of Manchester, NH since 1991; Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason Valley of Nashua; and a member of the Bektash Shriners.
In addition, he was a member of the Winona Social Club in Manchester for over 40 years and part of other social clubs in the city.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Susan (Long) Baillargeon, they shared 29 beautiful years together. Jerry was also predeceased by his daughter, Robin Gaudette, of Manchester.
Family members include his children: Derryl Baillargeon of Manchester, Suzanne Ranfos and husband Victor of Allenstown, Kimberly Jameson and late husband Peter of Warner, Kimberly Cann and late husband James of Manchester, and Sherri Perry and husband Michael of Manchester.
Grandchildren include Cory, Michael, Alyssa, Peter Jr, Krystal, Felicia, Gregory, Deric, Justin, Cameron, and Neveah.
Great Grandchildren include Scott, Aiden, Andrew, Jackson, Genevieve, Keiran, Finnleigh, Kateri, Ronan, Damian, Nataya, Milliana, Ashtin, and Damian.
To quote a sign that hung in Elm Street Shoe Repair for years, “Old cobblers never die, they just bang away”.
Visiting hours at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, will be Thursday, October 24th from 5 to 7 pm.
