The son of Vasilios and Smaragdi Manolakis, he was born June 14, 1916 in Kastraki, Kalambaka, Thessalias, Greece.
He was educated in the Greek school system and was a soldier in the Greek Army, serving during the Second World War. Upon leaving the Army, Mr. Manolakis served as a police officer in Piraeus, Greece until he left Greece for the United States in 1953. In the United States, Mr. Manolakis worked for many years at J.F. McElwain Shoe Company and retired from the General Electric Jet Propulsion Division in Hooksett, NH.
Mr. Manolakis was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester, and also a member of the Sons & Daughters of Kastrakini, Inc.
Mr. Manolakis was preceded in death by his wife Despina "Dessie" Manolakis in 2001, and sisters Mrs. John (Stella) Harris of Santa Ana, CA., Mrs. Evgenia Tziola of Kastraki, Greece, and Mrs. Evangelia Akratos of Kastraki, Greece.
His family includes his daughter Pamela Manolakis of Brookline, MA; his niece and her husband, Kay and Tim Preston of Santa Ana, CA., his nephew and his wife, Melty and Kiki Harris of Las Vegas, NV., his niece and her husband Kiki and Foni Konstantinou of Thessaloniki, Greece, his niece and her husband Smaragda and Elias Koutsoukos of Athens, Greece, and his nephew and his wife, Evangelos and Evangelia Akratos of Kastraski, Greece, and many grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews both in Greece and the US.
The funeral service was held Monday June 25, 2007 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St, Manchester. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation at the Elliot Hospital, with designation to the Fitch Unit, Four Elliot Way, Suite 301, Manchester, NH, 03103 or to the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St, Manchester, NH 03104.
