Archie C. McKinnon

August 25, 1937 — March 20, 2010

Archie C. McKinnon, 72, of Manchester died peacefully at home on March 20, 2010 surrounded by family after a challenging and courageous battle with cancer.

The youngest of a large family, he was born in Manchester to Catherine (Morrissey) and Martin McKinnon. He attended local schools and joined the US Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne and 77th Special Forces Airborne Rangers. He served in Vietnam as one of the first Green Berets.

He was certified in brick and stone masonry, cement finishing and tile setting. He worked for New Hampshire Local 3 and later owned and operated Archway Masonry Inc. He was elected as Business Agent for the brick masons and served as trustee for the Local 3 NH Pension Fund. Much of his work was related to brick and stone artistry such as paving, unique arches, mailboxes, beehive bread ovens, chimneys and fireplaces.

IN HIS LIFE: His work associated with the Historic Preservation Society included the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House and the Currier Art Gallery both in Manchester, and the Morrison Home in Londonderry.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He and his wife Linda enjoyed traveling together throughout the US, Alaska, Canadian Maritime Provinces, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

The family includes his wife, Linda (Berry) McKinnon of Manchester; a brother, Alan McKinnon of Merrimack; a sister, Eleanor Boucher of Londonderry; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Daniel and his brothers, Owen, Martin, Gerald, David and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at St. Peter's Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn.
