Armand J. Major, 86, of Manchester, died November 22, 2015 at Carlyle Place in Bedford after a long illness.

He was born in Manchester on January 26, 1929 to Theodore and Delia (St. Denis) Major. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.

He graduated from Hevey Grammar School and attended West High School, earning his diploma through GED. He later graduated from Parks Air College in E. St. Louis, IL, which was a U.S. Air Force program.

He served with the NH State Guard for two years, the Army National Guard for three years and the Air National Guard for over 37 years. During his military career he was activated to full time duty with the Air Force from 1951 to 1961. He then spent 34 years as an air technician with the Air Guard and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1989.

Armand was a former member of the Alpine Snowshoe Club Drum and Bugle Corps and was an assistant brass instrument instructor with the original Muchachos Drum and Bugle Corps. He sang in the choir at the former St. Jean the Baptist Church for over 22 years and the Bel Canto Choir in Manchester.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 79, a lifetime member of the National Guard Enlisted Association and a former member of the Intervale Country Club.

The family includes his wife of 65 years, Pauline (Julien) Major of Manchester; four children, Denise S. Labore and her husband, Mark, of Jefferson, Marc A. Major and his wife, Victoria, of Manchester, Paul G. Major and his wife, Susan, of Nashua and Norman A. Major and his wife, Rita, of Manchester; six grandchildren and many great grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Major and his wife, Laurette, of Bedford and Raymond Major of Shelburne, VT; cousins and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Parish of the Transfiguration, corner of Kelley and Youville streets, Manchester. Committal prayers followed at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
