d. June 25, 2022

Manchester, NH

Barbara Ann Delatiner Davidson of New York and Manchester, NH has passed away at the age of 90.

Born Barbara Delatiner to William and Rae Delatiner in Brooklyn in 1932, Barbara graduated from Erasmus High School before being the first in her family to attend and graduate from college, New York University in 1954 with a degree in English.

Barbara worked as a journalist following her graduation and spent many years during the 1960s as the television critic for New York Newsday. She then began a career as the arts and culture writer for the Long Island Section of the New York Times, covering theater, music and visual arts events from Montauk to Queens.

Barbara married David H. Davidson, a dentist, in 1959. They lived in Greenwich Village, NY with their two daughters, Beth and Wendy until moving to East Hampton full time in 1969.

A journalist and reporter, Barbara was also a creative writer. Inspired by a pair of Baltimore Orioles she saw from her home office window, she wrote a children’s book which, while never published, was enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. She also created a character called Freddy the falcon and regaled her grandchildren with his adventures whenever they visited together

An avid theatergoer, arts lover and bridge player, Barbara was also a sports fan. After her beloved Dodgers moved to the west coast in 1958, she embraced the upstart NY Mets and remained a lifelong fan.

David passed away in 1989 and Barbara moved to Port Washington ten years later. She continued writing for the New York Times until her retirement in 2007. In 2008, Barbara moved to New Hampshire.

Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Beth Davidson and Wendy Davidson Krieger, their husbands, Cliff Lopate and Jeff Krieger and two grandchildren, Deborah Anne Krieger and Benjamin David Krieger.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Memory Care Unit at Riverwoods Manchester, for years of tender care, and helping Barbara live with dignity.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Planned Parenthood or Families in Transition, www.fitnh.org.
