Benjamin E. Lamere, Jr.

October 14, 1924 — February 14, 2026

Manchester

Benjamin Edward Lamere, Jr. was born in Ludlow, VT on October 14, 1924 to Benjamin E. Lamere, Sr. and Vera Lamere (Davis). After a long and blessed life, Ben was welcomed into heaven on February 14, 2026. He is pre-deceased by his parents; by his three siblings Margaret Tuomisto (Lamere), Richard Lamere, and Robert Lamere; and by his beautiful wife of 62 years, M. Cecile Lamere (Poirier). He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Marc and Virginia Lamere (Blaha), Alice Lamere and Alan Gagnon, and Joseph Lamere and Sabine Manoli; by his six grandchildren: Lauren, Timothy, Haley, Natalie, Siena, and Samson; and by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who loved him dearly.

Ben was a strong, courageous, kind man whose favorite things were rich conversations shared with loved ones over a good meal (preferably one that included bacon and beer). Ben knew a little bit about everything and appreciated learning from others’ perspectives. He listened well, gave great advice, and was always quick-witted, He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, hiking, skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and cycling. He never shied away from new adventures. At the age of 100, Ben even piloted his nephew’s plane! No task was too great for Ben to take on. If he set his mind to something, he was going to make it happen!

Ben learned early on to be extremely independent and self sufficient. His father had returned from WWI requiring long term hospitalization and therefore was unable to care for his family so Ben quickly became the “man” of his household at age 7. He graduated from Black River High School in Ludlow, VT and started college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After his first year of university, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. At the age of 20, he was deployed to Iceland and Newfoundland during WWII where he worked as a weather observer, using newly introduced weather balloon technology. After reaching the rank of Corporal, he returned from the war to complete his undergraduate degree in Physics at RPI. Thereafter, he received his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. After completing his education, he went to work for Northeastern Engineering, Inc. in Manchester, NH, a position for which he was uniquely qualified due to the weather technology he mastered during his military service. Over the years, Ben worked at various engineering companies throughout New England including Space Products in Manchester, NH, Crescent Communications in New London, CT, Draper Labs in Cambridge, MA, and General Electric in Wilmington, MA. He ultimately retired at age 62 and found many useful projects to keep himself occupied. Throughout his life, he was very handy and creative, qualities that he passed onto his children. His kindness and warmth touched everyone he met.

Ben became acquainted with Cecile Poirier in his early 30s. They married on February 15, 1958. Together they built an amazing family overflowing with love, kindness, and adventures great and small. Ben was blessed with extremely good health over many years of life, but his departure leaves a giant void in all of our hearts. A man’s greatness is measured not only by his life’s accomplishments but also by the legacy he leaves behind. We are proud to be part of his legacy and will do our best to carry his tremendous impact forward.
