Berchmans N. Vaillancourt, 87, of Manchester, NH, passed away on July 28, 2025, at his home after a period of declining health.
He was born in Sawyerville, Quebec, Canada on April 14, 1938, to Philippe and Grace (Mercier) Vaillancourt. He grew up in Canada then lived in Manchester for over 60 years.
Berchmans originally worked in Canada as a dairy farmer, moving to New Hampshire in 1964. He became a skilled carpenter with various local companies, ultimately becoming a finish carpenter. He was routinely sought after to “fix” various building projects.
Berchmans was affectionately known as Bert, grandpa, or grandpapa. He was handy by nature, building many household items and toys with diligence and patience. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his fruit trees. He was actively involved with preserving vegetables from his garden as well as the fruit from his trees. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends where he loved to host family events where playing cards was a favorite past time. He was an avid hockey fan. One of his favorite places to visit was his nephews’ farm in Canada.
Berchmans was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Lucille (Beauregard) Vaillancourt, in February of this year.
He is survived by four children, Richard Vaillancourt and wife, Allison, Francine Giroux and partner, Craig Smith, Linda Biron and husband, David, and Russell Vaillancourt; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; nine siblings, Helene Boutin, George Vaillancourt, Rose Vaillancourt, Norman Vaillancourt, Jack Vaillancourt, Jeanette Scarlett, Marjolaine Vaillancourt, Sylvain Vaillancourt and Gervais Vaillancourt, and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Please join us celebrating his life with calling hours on Thursday, August 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester. Committal prayers will follow at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
