Bernard H. Cowette

Bernard H. Cowette, Jr., 87, of Manchester died September 12, 2012 at the Elliot Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Manchester on May 21, 1925, the son of Bernard H. and Josephine (Ziemba) Cowette. He was educated in the local schools and graduated from St. Joseph High School. During WWII, he served in the US Army and was stationed at the Panama Canal.

Prior to retirement, he had been the former owner and operator of the steel erecting firm J. Scanlon Co., Inc. for many years.

He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and was a longtime member of the Legion of One Thousand Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood.

He was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Cowette, his brother, Robert Cowette, his former wife Constance (Harlan) Cowette in 2004, and his son Bernard Cowette III in 2008.

Family members include his sons, John Cowette and wife Lana of Bedford, Robert Cowette and wife Constance of Manchester, Gary Cowette and wife Tracey of Manchester, William Cowette and wife Roberta of Manchester, 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Patricia Field of Hollywood, FL, Donald Cowette of Gilford, Paul Cowette of Hollywood, FL, Richard Cowette of Derry, Thomas and Daniel Cowette, both of Manchester; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Janet Mrozek of Manchester and his close friend Kyle Duhamel of Manchester.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, September 21, 2012 in St. Pius X Church, Candia Road, Manchester, NH. Urn burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St, Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Monastery of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge St, Manchester, NH 03104.
