Born in Manchester on October 10, 1950, he was the son of Bernard H. and Constance Ann (Harlan) Cowette Jr.. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School in 1968. He lived in Manchester most of his life.
Mr. Cowette worked for the International Iron Workers Local 474, Queen City Paint and several property appraisal companies.
He served in the New Hampshire Army National Guard for six years.
He was presented the Historic Preservation Award in 1997 by former Governor Jeanne Shaheen recognizing his leadership and advocacy promoting the preservation of Manchester and the establishment of the Heritage Commission.
The family includes his father of Manchester and Hollywood, FL; four brothers, John Cowette of Bedford and Robert Cowette, Gary Cowette and William Cowette all of Manchester; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
IN HIS LIFE: Bernard enjoyed reading, history, literature and golfing. He also had a longtime interest in his family genealogy.
A memorial mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday April 26, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St., Manchester. Graveside committal prayers followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Manchester. Donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 33 So. Commercial St., Suite 401, Manchester, NH 03101.
Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester assisted the family with arrangements.
