Catherine Carey (Manseau) Fortin, 87, of Manchester, died September 16, 2022 surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health.
Born in Manchester on September 21, 1934, she was the daughter of Leo and Catherine (Carey) Manseau. She attended St. Marie High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Notre Dame College in Manchester. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a grammar school teacher by the Manchester School District for many years
Carey was a passionate tennis player and fan her entire life. She was a former State of NH singles and New England doubles tennis champion. She was also a longtime member of the Derryfield Country Club, where she proudly scored a Hole-in-One and walked 18 holes several days a week. She enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors, walking her miniature schnauzer, Venus, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Patrick McGovern in 2006 and great-grandson, Conrad McGovern in 2021.
Family members include her children, Ellen McGovern and husband Patrick of Deerfield, Mark Fortin and wife Lori of Deerfield, Kathleen Mamolen and husband Lon of Boynton Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Michael McGovern and wife Alexandra, Kevin McGovern and wife Juliane, John McGovern and wife Molleigh, Margaret McGovern, Elizabeth Fortin, Thomas Fortin and Caroline Fortin, Brian Johnson and wife Nadia, Robert Johnson; great-grandchildren, Gemma, Tate, Parker, Sutton, Charles, and Piper McGovern; her sister, Lea McHugh of Manchester; her dear friend of many years, Meredith Nickerson of Manchester; nephews, nieces and cousins.
Calling hours at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, corner of North St, will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm, with a brief funeral service held in the funeral home’s chapel at 7 pm.
Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery will be private at the family’s convenience.
