Catherine McGee

d. September 1, 2007

Catherine "Kathleen" McGee passed away at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on September 1, 2007, at age 84, after a prolonged illness. She was the widow of Thomas J. McGee.

Kathleen Fay was born January 20, 1923, at Belturbet, Ireland, one of seven children of Irish industrialist and political figure B.C. Fay and his wife Catherine (O'Reilly) Fay. She attended local private schools and college in Ireland.

Kathleen Fay married Thomas J. McGee, then an officer attached to the military section of the Irish supreme court in 1950. Mrs. McGee came to the United States with her husband and two children in 1959. She lived briefly in Westchester County, New York and on the West Coast before settling in Andover, Massachusetts in 1968.

Mrs. McGee was active in her community, serving as a director of the Andover ABC Program from 1977-1979 and working briefly as a reporter for a local seniors' newspaper. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, poetry, classical music, a good political discussion, and most of all her family who were the center of her life. She spent many hours as a volunteer visiting the sick and the elderly in nursing homes in the area.

Mrs. McGee will be remembered by her family and many friends, especially for her boundless compassion, her irrepressible sense of humor, and the touch of elegance she brought to life. She is survived by three sons: Joseph of Northport, Long Island, Barry of Stowe, VT, and Rory of Andover, MA.

In accordance with her wishes, her remains were returned to Ireland for final interment and private family memorial services.

Lambert Funeral Home, Manchester, NH, assisted with the arrangements.
