Charles J. Dunn

Charles J. Dunn, 73, of Manchester died March 15, 2002 at Catholic Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Manchester on June 25, 1928, he was the son of Minard and Annie (McDougall) Dunn. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.

He graduated from Manchester Central High School, then earned a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1952. In 1954 he graduated from Boston University School of Law.

He served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan. While there he was a member of the Army baseball and boxing teams.

Mr. Dunn was a partner with the law firm of Wadleigh, Starr, Peters, Dunn & Chiesa in Manchester and was affiliated with that law firm for 40 years.

He was a member of the American Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association and the Manchester Bar Association. In addition, he was a member of the Manchester Rotary Club, the Optimist Club and the Defense Research Institute. He also served as president of Toastmaster's International.

Mr. Dunn served on the board of directors of the Manchester Association of Retired Citizens and of Child and Family Services in Manchester.

He was a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International in 1996. He also received the Professionalism Award by the Manchester Bar Association in 1997.

The family includes four children from his marriage to Dorothy Dunn Strauss of Durham. They are David C. Dunn of Manchester, Lisa M. Alderette of Seabrook, Thomas J. Dunn of Hampton and Amy L. Dunn who died in 1995. He also had three children from his marriage to Laurel C. Dunn of Kittery, ME. They are Jonathon S. Dunn of Portsmouth, Meaghan C. Dunn of Kittery and Joseph C. Dunn of Portsmouth. Additional family includes 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Brent of Manchester; three brothers, Francis R. Dunn, G. Robert Dunn and Roger T. Dunn all of Manchester; nieces and nephews; his longtime friend and caregiver, Faustin Malei of Manchester.

Calling hours were March 19, 2002 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated March 20, 2002 in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock streets, Manchester.
