Charles S. Riley, aged 90, of Bedford passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on July 19, 1934, in Manchester, NH, “Chuck” was the son of the late Charles and Gladys (Humphrey) Riley.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Gustafson) Riley, and their four children: Charles Riley Jr. of Denver, CO; Cheryl Ewing and husband Bill of Bedford, NH; Colleen Yanco and husband James of California; Cary Riley of Littleton, NH; grandchildren: Christy Spotts, Lindsay and Victoria Yanco, Nicole and Allison Riley, Kelsey and Riley Ewing, great-grandchildren, Sofia Spotts and Cannon Riley, brother, Byron Riley of NH; and many nieces and nephews.
He attended Bakersville School in Manchester and Proctor Academy. His sales career included working for Metropolitan Insurance, various manufacturing concerns, and local real estate. He founded Granite Fundraising in 1982 with his daughter Cheryl and son Cary and was involved until his retirement.
In the 1960’s and early 70’s he coached the Manchester Swim Team, a volunteer job that he loved and truly enjoyed. An avid skier, he taught his family to ski. He and his wife Betty enjoyed being members of the Alpine Social Club.
His granddaughter Nicole captured his spirit with her post; “There is no easy way to say goodbye to a man like him. He was pure joy in human form. The kind of person who told the funniest jokes, lit up every room, and somehow made you laugh even when you didn’t want to. He never took life seriously, but he loved deeply, fearlessly, and with his whole heart. He lived like a kid at recess, always chasing fun and never in a rush to grow up. He remained married to my grandmother for 71 years. Seventy-one years of laughter, loyalty, and love that makes forever look easy. Their love story is the kind that leaves a legacy."
He was a devoted husband, great father and a much-loved friend. He will be deeply missed by all.
