Charlotte M. Burleigh

Sr. Charlotte Burleigh, CSC (Sr. Mary Charlotte), 86, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester died January 15, 2002 at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester.

Born in Rochester on September 5, 1915, she was the daughter of Henry W. and Flora Ann (McDonald) Burleigh. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross at St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada in 1934 and made her final profession in 1939.

She earned a bachelor's degree in Business Education from Notre Dame College at Manchester in 1959. She also took graduate classes.

Sr. Burleigh taught at parochial elementary schools and high schools in New Hampshire at Manchester, Somersworth, Newmarket and Nashua; in Massachusetts at Adams and New Bedford; in Canada at Montreal and Grande Prairie; and in St. Albans, VT. During summer months she taught at Notre Dame College.

While in New Bedford, she began a youth group at St. Anthony High School. She later taught religion in the public school system, taught business classes and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She also was a swimming instructor and coached basketball and softball.

The family includes a sister, Celia Groblicky of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were January 17, 2002 at St. George Manor, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated January 18, 2002 in the chapel at St. George Manor. Burial was in St. Augustin Cemetery, So. Beech St., Manchester.
