Clay F. Whitfield left us on February 28, 2018 to sing for a bigger audience in the sky. We'll miss his music, his voice, his wonderful sense of humor.
He was born on June 3, 1960 in Oxnard, CA, the 2nd son of Frances Madsen and Clint Whitfield. The family lived in Utah, Montana and California. At age 15 he moved from El Cajon, CA to Auburn, NH where he became known as "the California Kid".
He married his high school sweetheart, Maureen Merrill. After 25 years and one daughter they went their separate ways. Professionally, Clay worked for Manchester Recycling until he was side-lined with a debilitating back injury. From that time on he dedicated himself to community service and helping others.
For a time, he was sole owner and operator of CFW Power Wash in Candia, a successful business he established from scratch. He was a musician, a race car transport driver, and an ocean sailor.
He was a genuinely loving person who devoted himself to others. Clay never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered always by those whose path he crossed and whose lives he touched.
Clay is survived by his cherished daughter, Ashley Kalloger and her husband, Sean, and his beloved grandson, James Taylor. He also has a caring extended family including his mother and stepfather, Fran and Murray Towle of Auburn; his father and stepmother, Clint and Judy Whitfield of Bend, OR; his brother, Brad and wife, Cheryl and their children, Bradley Jr. and Samantha Billings; his nephew, Harlan Whitfield; his stepsister, Ellen Price; his stepbrother, Chip Towle and wife, Jyd; and nieces, Alexandra and Sydney. He was predeceased by his older brother, Taylor, in 2009.
He lives on in our hearts and memories.
A funeral ceremony was held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester.
