Daniel Del Rio, 83, of Manchester, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 2, 2025, following a brief illness.
He was born in Camuy, Puerto Rico, on May 23, 1942, to the late Domingo and Leonor (Raices) Del Rio. He grew up on a family farm surrounded by his many brothers and sisters. After completing fifth grade, Daniel left school to help support his family. At age 16, he left Puerto Rico and moved to the United States, where he spent many years in Brooklyn, NY, working in a restaurant.
During a visit back to Puerto Rico, Daniel met the love of his life, Sonia, and the two were married in 1973. A year later, they moved to the United States and made Manchester their home, where they raised their family together.
Daniel was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in his work. He spent 35 years with the Manchester Highway Department, often helping with paving and snow plowing. Known for his humor, determination, kindness, and zest for life, Danny had a gift for bringing joy to everyone he met. His words of wisdom and gentle lectures on how to be a better person will be remembered by all who loved him. He had a remarkable ability to light up any room and was truly the glue that held his large family together.
A devoted Christian man, Daniel lived his faith through his actions—always helping others, offering encouragement, and treating everyone with compassion. His love for his family was unwavering, and he especially cherished every moment spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Sonia Del Rio; his daughters, Melanie Del Rio and her husband, and Lillian Del Rio Lupa and her husband; his beloved grandchildren Jahnae Parrilla, Allesha Parrilla, Saundra Del Rio, Isis Parrilla, Rahzel Parilla and Johnathan Lupa; great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Maria Del Rio Torres, and his brother Edwin Del Rio; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents and several of his siblings.
