Daniel J. Farkas

March 16, 1965 — June 29, 2023

Daniel Joseph Farkas passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2023. He was on his way to a Rainbow Gathering.

Dan was born March 16, 1965, the son of Stephen and E. Grace Farkas. He attended Milltown, NJ public schools, St. Pius X High School, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. At WPI he was a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. After graduation he spent a year in Zimbabwe working for Operation Crossroads Africa. He then worked as a computer engineer for AT&T and Motorola, before taking a break from that work.

At the age of 25, Dan headed to California where he worked as a masseuse and indulged his love for music festivals. At 31, Dan began his career as a Cisco instructor, finding a way to combine his technical expertise with his love of travel. At 44, Dan moved to Florida, and worked with World Wide Technology until his passing.

Dan loved listening to live music, particularly by local artists. He enjoyed Rainbow, Burning Man, and other similar gatherings. Dan worked as a life coach, danced at a total eclipse of the sun, communed with penguins in Antarctica, taught in Iceland and South Korea, saw the northern lights, walked on hot coals, ran the New York Marathon at age 18, and loved his nephews and grand-nephews.

Dan was pre-deceased by his father, Stephen Farkas; his mother, E. Grace Farkas; and his love, Sulana Schroeder. Dan leaves his sister Stephanie Salinas and her husband Nehemias (Ned) of Sanford, FL; nephew Benjamin Daniel Salinas of Providence, RI; nephew Stephen Humberto Salinas and his wife Laura of Lake Mary, FL, and grand-nephews Samuel and Luca Salinas of Lake Mary, FL.

Because Dan lived and loved in several communities, receptions may be held in those localities. A remembrance video will be created and shared by the family in the coming month, and ashes will be interred privately in New Jersey and Florida.

Donations are invited in Dan’s memory to Hungry for Music, an organization that helps put musical instruments in every child’s hands. https://hungryformusic.org/make-a-dedication-donation/. Phone: 202-436-0803. Mail: 2020 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, No 384, Washington, DC 20006.
