He was born in Manchester on May 26, 1935, the son of Daniel C. and Ruth Mae (French) Shea. He was educated in the local school system and served in the US Navy during the Korean War.
Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a union iron worker with Local 474 for 40 years. He had also worked 10 years for New England Traffic Control.
Dan was formerly active with the NHIAA Basketball Officials Program and will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and brother.
He was a member of the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post #2.
He was predeceased by his wife Charlene (McRae) Shea who passed away in 2004.
Family members include his children, Daniel Shea and his wife Patricia of Oshkosh, WI, Cheryl L. Shea of Baltimore, and Patrick Shea of Manchester; his grandchildren, Jessica Shea and Danielle Shea, both of Oshkosh, Ryan Reckner of Baltimore, Charlene Reckner of Martinsburg, WV, and Brittany Dove of Hedgesville, WV; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Kathleen Rees of Manchester, and Ruth Rivard of Merrimack; one brother, John Shea of Manchester; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was also predeceased by his sister Mary Hall of Nashua.
Funeral services were private and at the convenience of the family. Urn burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
