Dennis M. Lewis

September 10, 1957 — January 11, 2021

Dennis M. Lewis, 63, of Candia, passed away on January 11, 2021 at Catholic Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Exeter on September 10, 1957, Dennis was the son of the late Ralph R. and Norma D. (Morgan) Lewis. He was a graduate of Central High School and a lifelong resident of Candia.
Dennis was very active in Candia Boy Scouts of America Troop120 and earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1972. Dennis belonged to the Candia Historical Society and was a longtime member of the Candia Conservation Commission.

Dennis owned and operated D.M. Lewis Landscaping for over 40 years. He enjoyed raising animals on their farm. Dennis was the Road Agent for the Town of Candia for 25 years. He was very dedicated and devoted to the Town of Candia, often volunteering his time. Dennis had a deep respect and love of history and land conservation. .

Dennis was a generous, hard working, dedicated and extremely honest man. He was the kind of person you could always call if in a bind. Dennis could come up with an idea to fix almost anything. He had an unparalleled passion for working with granite, creating and designing stone walls that shape the scenery of much of NH. There are not many places you can go in southern NH that he hasn't touched in some way. Dennis had a love for the outdoors and a passion for making maple syrup. We will always remember the excitement in his eyes during the first boil of the season, making someone their first sugar on snow, or handing over a kid-sized bottle of pure NH maple syrup to his grandchildren.

Above all else, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We can still hear him singing while making breakfast in the kitchen, picture him walking up from parking his truck, and feel how much he cared for all of us through everything he did. We will think of Dennis when the first snowflakes fly, when we feel the excitement of cutting into an ice cream cake, or with the smell of fresh cut hay. If our lives make even half the impact that Dennis had, we will consider our lives well lived.

Surviving family members include his wife of 37 years, Janet L. (Davidson) Lewis; four children, Abigail L. Hatfield and husband Timothy R. of Barrington, Elizabeth A. Wuebbolt and husband Jeffrey T. of Candia, Benjamin M. Lewis and wife Whitney R. of Milan, and Hannah L. Miller and husband Seth L. of Candia; four grandchildren, Hannah G., Chloe M., and Ryan J. Hatfield of Barrington; and Rebecca D. Lewis of Milan; one brother, Daniel R. Lewis of Candia; a nephew, Gregory D. Lewis and his wife Molly A. of Chester; and the family dog, Callie.
