Dennis C. Smestad

He was born in Swanville, MN on December 28, 1928, the son of Oliver and Serena (Sather) Smestad. He was educated in the Swanville school system and earned his degree in applied sciences from the University of New Hampshire.

He served in the US Air Force prior to his honorable discharge in 1949.

Dennis had been employed by IBM for over 28 years before his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and being with his many friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time spent with family.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Irene M. (King) Smestad in 2011 and his sister Juanita Johnson earlier this year.

Family members include his children, Dennis Smestad and wife Jean of Northwood, Steve Smestad of Portsmouth, James Smestad and wife Dee of Weare, Diane Alonso and husband Robert of Philadelphia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday, September 20, 2012 in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 484 Donald St, Bedford.
