Donald P. Bernier, 88, of Manchester, died November 20, 2013 in Hooksett after a sudden illness.

He was born in Exeter on September 24, 1925 to George and Rosaide (Jacques) Bernier. He lived in Manchester, Palm Springs, CA and Hooksett many years before recently returning to Manchester.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Boston and later in the Korean War.

Donald worked for many years at Anchor Electric, General Electric and as a driver of the bookmobile at the Manchester City Library. He was a member of the American Legion Post 79 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed watching sports, playing pool and cards, square dancing, gardening and puttering around with tools. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family.

He was married to Lorraine A. (Laliberte) Bernier who died in 2011.

The family includes seven children, Jeannette Carignan, of Hooksett, Jeannine Gingras and her husband, Robert, of Bow, Ronald Bernier and his wife, Linda, of Hooksett, Robert Bernier and his wife, Patricia, of Virginia Beach, VA, Denise Gendron of Manchester, Donna O'Connor and her husband, Barry, of Derry and Linda Cromwell and her husband, John, of the state of Washington; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; eight siblings, George Bernier of Ohio, Philip Bernier and Jacqueline Proulx both of Brentwood, Juliette Shea of Maine, Adele Bakke of Somersworth, Lionel Bernier of Wolfeboro, Francis Bernier of Northwood and Claude Bernier of Franklin; cousins and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, November 25, 2013 at St. Peter Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn. Committal prayers followed at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen.
