Donald J. Burleigh

Donald J. Burleigh, 68, of Manchester died January 11, 2010 at the Catholic Medical Center surrounded by his family following his battle with cancer.

He was born in Queens, NY on September 16, 1941, the son of Gerald W. and Hazel (Rhodes) Burleigh. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester. He was a graduate of Manchester High School Central.

He served in the US Navy for twelve years during the Vietnam War and received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

He worked for Microelectrodes, Inc. in Bedford for 30 years as a scientific glass blower and loved his job. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Sweeney Post #2. He was also a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood.

Mr. Burleigh devoted his life to his family. His biggest joy was being with his wife of 37 years Elaine. His humor, smile, and spirit will be deeply missed.

Family members include his wife Elaine C. (Lacroix) Burleigh of Manchester; daughter, Shannon M. Burleigh and granddaughter, Sophia Emily Rose, both of Manchester; one brother, Richard Burleigh and his wife Carol; one sister, Patricia Johnston of CA; nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Gerald Burleigh and his sister Dolores Davis Vincent.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, January 15, 2010 in Parish of the Transfiguration, corner of Youville and Kelley St. Burial with military honors followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester.
