Donald C. "Sully" Sullivan, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 74, died in the company of family at the Elliot Hospital Hospice after an extended illness.
Though he was a resident of Londonderry for over 30 years, Sully was born in Boston and attended Charlestown High School. After graduating as an electrical tradesman, he went on to work at the General Dynamics Shipyard. He later spent 35 years as an electrician at MIT and 50 years at the Boston Garden, where he was instrumental in unionizing the staff. He was a member of Service Employees International Union.
In his spare time he loved to collect stamps and coins, gardening and sharing his knowledge of gardening with everyone he met. He enjoyed politics and was a fierce Republican who relished a debate. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family includes his wife of 16 years, Pearle A. (Oberlin) Sullivan of Londonderry; two children, Kathleen G. Kilroy and her husband, David, of Londonderry and Donald R. Sullivan and his wife, Miriam, of Portland, OR; two step children, Diana Tortolini of South Boston, MA and David Tortolini and his wife, Elizabeth, of Newport News, VA; four grandchildren, Joey, Luke, Morgan and Naomi; three siblings, Catherine "Sister" Cartwright and her husband, Michael, of El Cajon, CA, John Sullivan and his wife, Katherine, of Houston, TX and Richard Sullivan of Brockton, MA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister in law, Elizabeth Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 4, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Committal prayers followed at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave., Boston, MA.
