Donald A. Martel

Donald A. "Duck" Martel, 73, of Manchester died February 26, 2011 at the Catholic Medical Center after a short illness.

Born in Manchester on Christmas Day in 1937, he was the son of Ovila and Florida (Laferty) Martel. He was educated in the local school system.

He served in the US Navy prior to his honorable discharge in 1955.

Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the City of Manchester Highway Department for many years.

Don loved to fish, especially with his son-in-law, and play pool and cribbage most recently at the Lafayette Club. He will be remembered as an easy going, joyful man who was always ready to help others.

Family members include his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Glynn) Martel of Manchester; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Donna Martel) Currier of Boynton Beach, FL; nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He is also survived by his granddaughter, Samantha Ann Currier of Durham, NH.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in the chapel of Mt. Carmel Nursing Home, corner of Myrtle and Maple Streets. Burial with military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St, Bedford.
