Dorothy Niebel

June 20, 1944 — June 1, 2026

Bedford

Dorothy Niebel, 81, beloved wife of the late Werner Niebel with whom she shared 53 years of marriage, passed away in the comfort of her home on Monday, June 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in the Bronx, NY on June 20, 1944, she was the beloved daughter of the late Stanley and Dorothy Tegmier.

Dorothy grew up attending Bronx public schools and went on to graduate from Hunter College in 1966 with a degree in German History/Education. She spent her early career shaping young minds as a fifth and sixth-grade teacher in the New York City public schools. Dorothy later proudly transitioned into the role of homemaker, dedicated entirely to raising her family in Bedford, NH. She filled her home with love, incredible cooking, and lifelong lessons, always instilling in her children a deep understanding of finance and a belief in the vital importance of education.

Those who knew Dorothy well will remember her sharp wit, sense of humor and her passion for life's simple pleasures. She was an avid, lifelong bargain shopper who could spot a deal from a mile away and took great joy in the thrill of the hunt.

While she may have struggled to spend full retail price on herself, she was always generous and spared no expense when it came to the people she loved. Dorothy was boundlessly giving, always ensuring her family and friends had everything they needed, showering everyone with love, gifts, and praise.

Her home and her heart were always open, because above all else, Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. They loved her dearly.

Dorothy is survived by her three children: Werner Niebel and his wife Heather, Kristina Mearls and her husband Dan, Kurt Niebel and his wife Julie; her five grandchildren: Emma, Isabelle, Aaron, Erik, Stevie; her niece: Kimberly Evers; as well as her extended family in Germany, including her niece: Esther; and her nephews: Friedrich, Reinhold, Jurgen, and Ralf.

In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her world travel partner and dear sister: Janice Evers; and her niece: Monika.
