Born in Clitherall, MN on March 3, 1917, he was the son of Frank and Ida (Saetre) Reed. He grew up in Wisconsin and later lived many years in Hampton and New Durham.
He served in the US Army Air Corps and the US Air Force in World War II, including tours in the Pacific and North Africa. After 23 years of service he retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He later worked at Dover Ford in Dover, Pierce Ford in Hampton and Brady Ford in Portsmouth.
Mr. Reed enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states, fishing and had won many awards in archery. He was a member of the Profile Bowmen, the Farmington Fish and Game Club and the Farmington Congregational Church.
He was married to Bettyann (Aston) (Andrews) Reed who died in 1998.
He was the oldest of eight children.
The family includes three brothers Frank Reed from Milwaukee, WI, John Reed of Madison, WI and Alan Reed of Chamos WA; a sister, Lillian Milroy of Mesa, AZ; a son, William Reed of Keene; three step children, Kathleen Walker of Jasper, MN, Jeffrey Andrews of Chichester and Michael Andrews of Washington; six grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Glen Reed of Wisconsin and Richard Chamos of Chamos, WA and a sister, Betty Fletcher of Seattle, WA
A remembrance and celebration of Earl's life was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Farmington Fish and Game Club, Old Bay Rd., New Durham.
