Edith R. Plourde Luiz died December 30, 2017 in Saco, ME.
Born in St. Nicolette, P.Q., Canada on July 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Marie Louise (Therrien) and Thomas Patrick Plourde. When she was three months old her family immigrated to Manchester, NH.
Edith met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Luiz, at her 16th birthday party. They married in 1942 and lived happily until Chuck's death in 2010, just shy of their 68th wedding anniversary. Following her husband's death Edith was cared for by her daughters, initially in Manchester and for the last three years in Maine.
During her lifetime Edith worked a number of jobs to help support her family, her last position being the receptionist and bookkeeper for Dr. Lin Tung, MD
Edith was a loyal, caring friend and lent a sympathetic ear to many over the years. She loved babies, the beach, singing, dancing, and a good joke. She maintained her sense of humor throughout her illness, bringing laughter to family, friends and caregivers with her quips and quick wit.
An avid crafter, Edith's medium was needlework and quilting was her passion. She took immense pride in the fact that every stitch of her many creations was done by hand.
Edith was a much loved Grammy to her six granddaughters; Allison Smith Osterberg of Olympia, WA, Katie Smith of Bozeman, MT, Megan Smith Antonellis of Kingston, NH, Elizabeth Furbish of Chicago, IL, Laura Furbish of Gorham, ME and Sarah Furbish of Nashville, TN. Her greatest joys in her final days were her visits with her great granddaughter, Avery Antonellis. The first boy in her family, Vincenzo Antonellis, was born just days before her death. Sadly he will only know his 'GiGi' through the loving memories we will share with him.
Edith was pre deceased by her husband Charles (Chuck), and infant daughter, Patricia and her sisters, Rita Law and Jeannette Mulholland.
Edith is survived by her daughters Diana Furbish and her husband Robert of Saco, ME and Judith Smith and her husband Jerre of Candia NH; her granddaughters and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
