Edward G. "Gibby" Gibbons, 89, formerly of Manchester died June 3, 2005, at a local nursing home following a brief illness.
He was born in Manchester, NH on April 13, 1916, the son of Patrick and Hannah (Morgan) Gibbons. He was educated in the Manchester school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central, Class of 1935.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, a US Army WWII veteran and also served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Prior to retiring from Mighty Mac, he worked in the Manchester shoe industry and Rockingham Race Track.
Mr. Gibbons was a member of the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post #2 and the East Manchester Fish and Game Club.
An avid sports fan, he was active in the Golden Gloves and a member of the NH Boxing Commission.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille (Morrissey) Gibbons, in 2003.
Members of his family include his daughter, Brenda Feese of Chadds Ford, PA; two granddaughters, Stacy Feese of Greenville, DE and Shelley Feese of Purcellville, VA; many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Wednesday June 8, 2005. Committal prayers and burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, with military honors accorded by the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post.
