Edward Francis Klufts

Edward Francis Klufts was born to Adolph and Louise Klufts, of Lawrence, MA on April 20, 1929. He grew up alongside four brothers and a sister. He was educated by German nuns at The Assumption Parish Grammar School and attended Central Catholic High School of Lawrence. Drafted in 1951, he served as an Army medic in Germany and reached the rank of Sergeant. Following discharge, with the assistance of the G.I. Bill, he attended the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. He fondly recalled his daily train rides to classes in Boston with his friends, fellow Lawrence natives, Leo Boucher and Roland Gosselin. After graduating in 1957, he began a career as a pharmacist in Lawrence, moving in 1962 to join his friends working for the Gosselin Pharmacy Chain. He spent the next 30 years operating the South Main Street Pharmacy in Manchester, NH. He was proud to serve the community, offering advice, medicine and home delivery, even on snowy nights.
In 1967 he married Gertrude Hamilton with whom he spent the remaining 51 years of his life. They raised two children, Edward H. Klufts and Christine Klufts Soucy, both of Manchester. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, where they served as a "greeter and consoler" for many years. He belonged to The Legion of a Thousand Men at the Precious Blood Monastery and attended daily mass in his retirement.
He was a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Lillian, Edward and Benjamin Soucy; attending school performances, sporting events and family celebrations. He spent his summers vacationing with family on the beaches of Cape Cod. He enjoyed Caribbean cruises with his wife and home cooked Sunday meals made by his son-in-law, Ed. He loved reading his daily newspapers and often shared laughs with others over the comics page. He could recite poetry from memory and was known for his witty phrases. He was happy to end the day watching a ball game.
Ed died after a brief illness at Mount Carmel Nursing Home. His family is grateful for the love and compassion of his caregivers. One of his memorable quotes was from The Carolinian, "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal." Like a line from his favorite poem, Psalm of Life, Ed has left behind footprints in the sands of time.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers: Bernard, Robert, Louis and Joseph Klufts. He is survived by his sister Mary Klufts of Lawrence, MA, his wife, children, grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, October 29, 2018 in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Hemlock St. Burial with military honors followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Road, Manchester.
