Edward Clark Murphy, 91, of Bedford, NH passed away at his home, on June 4, 2017, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born in Dracut, MA, on January 23, 1926, the son of Albert J. Murphy and Vivian (Willet) Murphy. The family moved to Jewett Street in Manchester when he was a small child. He attended elementary school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and graduated in 1943 from St. Joseph's High School for Boys.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served as a radarman aboard the USS John Q. Roberts, in the Pacific Theatre. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Post 79.
Mr. Murphy earned a BA in Economics from St. Anselm's College in 1950.
On September 30, 1950, Edward married Evangeline Eleanor (Gazda) Murphy at Blessed Sacrament Church in Manchester. Together they raised four children. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years.
Ed Murphy was a founding partner of Henry and Murphy Real Estate and Insurance with Lester J. Henry in 1958. He was a charter member of the Manchester Board of Realtors and served as its president for many years. He continued in the business until his retirement from E.C. Murphy Appraisals in 1992.
An avid sportsman, he hunted and fished with family and friends, and was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, as well as the Elks Club.
As a gentleman rancher, Ed enjoyed horses, and raised goats, bird dogs and racing pigeons. He was president of the Souhegan Valley Racers. Murphy's Loft placed first in the Northeast Concourse in multiple competitions over many years. He pursued a lifelong interest in photography.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a good provider and a loving grandfather. His greatest passion was his family and this passion grew as his family expanded.
His children include three daughters, Donna Beth Murphy and her husband, Marc Jalbert, Sheryl Brooks, Marcia Murphy, a son, Dennis C. Murphy, who predeceased him, and a daughter-in-law, Bobbie Murphy. His grandchildren include Ryan and Falon Brooks; Candice and Ashley Balon; RaeLyn Murphy; Joseph, Julien, Adrienne Jalbert, and step grandchildren, Kathi and Aimee Jalbert. He has ten great-grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Harold Murphy, and sisters, Eileen Buciak and Ann Begin. He was predeceased by his brother Dr. Albert Murphy and sister, Kathryn Murphy.
A funeral service was held on Friday, June 9, 2017 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester. Committal prayers with military burial honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St, Bedford.
