Edward R. Soucy, 75, of Manchester, died March 11, 2016 at Elliot Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Manchester on August 29, 1940 to Andre and Violette (Desilets) Soucy and would remain a lifelong resident and faithful communicant of St. Anne/ St. Augustin Parish. He was educated at St. Augustin's Grammar School and graduated Central High School ('58) before joining the U.S. Navy. In the Navy he served as an engineman, aboard the U.S.S. Croaker, a diesel submarine, from 1958 to 1961. Upon discharge, he continued his education at the NH Technical Institute ('64) and later began work for Philco-Ford, tracking satellites, in Thule, Greenland.
Returning to NH, Eddy, as he was known to friends and family, switched careers, and began a 50 year membership in the Laborer's International Union of North America, employed primarily by the Harvey Construction Co. He was proud of his hard work and would enthusiastically point to the many buildings throughout the state that benefited from his efforts.
Eddy was an avid hunter of the whitetail deer and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He cherished an afternoon in the woods, surrounded by wildlife, and would spend hours telling his adventures to those he loved. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, swimming and scuba diving.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary W. (Remington) Soucy of Manchester; three children, Edward R. Soucy Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Manchester, Kimberly Brady and her husband, Shane, of Candia and Matthew Soucy of Manchester; five grandchildren, Lily, Eddy and Ben Soucy and Shane Jr. and Dillon Brady; two siblings, Violet Jackson and Roland Soucy and his wife, Muriel, all of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.
