Edward L. Thornton, 83, of Candia, NH passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, after a long period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester on June 29, 1940, son of the late Frederick and Isabella (Mitchell) Thornton and was educated in the Manchester school system.
After graduation from high school, Edward married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Lafond) Thornton, joined the US Army National Guard and moved to Fort Bragg North Carolina.
When he returned to NH, he built a family home in Candia where they raised four children while Edward worked as a superintendent in the construction industry building many commercial properties around New England until his retirement. Edward was an avid Nascar fan, loved going on cruises, enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle, spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife, family, and friends.
He is now re-united with his wife of 58 years, Barbara who passed in 2021. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family members which include his children, Edward L. Thornton Jr of Candia, Lisa Thibodeau and husband Scott of Candia, Lea St. Laurent and husband James of Merrimack, NH, Steven Thornton and wife Stephanie of Arnold, MD, grandchildren, Kyle Thornton, Austin McDaniel, Taylor McDaniel, Matthew St. Laurent, Jake Thornton, Julia Thornton, and great grandchildren Gracie West and McKenna Thornton.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 21st at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a service in the funeral home chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Holbrook Cemetery, Candia.
