Efrosini (Kolinas) Gianaris, 91, of Manchester, died peacefully on October 19, 2016, at Villa Crest Nursing Home.
Born in Manchester on December 9, 1924, "Effie" was the daughter of Anastasios and Mary (Maressou) Kolinas. She graduated from Central High School in 1942 and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. Effie married her beloved husband, Chris Gianaris in 1948 and through that union, their daughter Constance was born. Together, she and Chris owned and operated C & H Supermarket, corner of Hanover St. and Hall St., for many years. Upon retirement, they traveled extensively throughout London, Paris, Germany, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Holland, Canada, and Greece.
Effie was a member of the Ladies Anagennisis Society and Ladies Tuesday Workshop for 30 years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope, Ilios Chapter 51, where she served in many offices, including that of President and District Governor of District # 9. Effie received the Penelope of the Year award in 1987. She was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross, for children of Manchester needing transportation to various exercises and events. She was also a volunteer at the Senior Activity Center on Webster St.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Chris Gianaris in 2005.
Members of the family include one daughter, Mrs. Constance Andrews and her husband Robert of Springfield, MO; two nieces; one nephew; and her dear friend, Linda Dillon of Candia. She was also predeceased by her brother Aristidies "Harry" Kolinas.
A funeral service took place on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North St., Manchester. Committal prayers followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Calef Rd., Manchester. Per Effie's wishes, please do not send flowers. Memorial donations in her name may be made to: St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St., Manchester, NH 03104.
