Eileen Laurie Mehlhorn, 99, of Manchester died December 26, 2017 at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Manchester on September 18, 1918, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Sweeney) Laurie. She was a graduate of Manchester High School Central class of 1936 and graduated from Keene Teacher College, class of 1940.
Eileen taught in a one room school in Hinsdale, NH for two years. She worked as a case worker for the NH Department of Public Welfare and then taught in the Manchester School District for numerous years.
Eileen was proud of the house that she and her husband, Ralph, built. She enjoyed filling it with all her books and many varied interests. She also loved spending time in her summer home in Kennebunkport, ME with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ralph in 2009. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Euphemia "Phem" Mahoney, Ursula Bernier, Bella Burke and Nellie Thomas.
Her family includes one daughter Carolyn Mehlhorn of Manchester; one son, Richard Mehlhorn and his wife Elizabeth of Venice, FL; one granddaughter, Beth Mehlhorn Galvin and her husband Geroge of Houston, TX; one grandson, William Mehlhorn and his wife Emily Stewart Mehlhorn of Wexford, PA; four great-grandsons, Sean Galvin, Parker, Carter and Theodore Mehlhorn; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service was held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
