Born in Boston, MA on January 27, 1921, she was the daughter of Robert and Ethel (Drew) Gannon. She grew up in Quincy, MA, then lived in Braintree, MA many years before moving to Manchester 12 years ago.
She graduated from Thayer Academy in Braintree, Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, MA and earned a master's degree in education from Boston University.
During World War II she served in the US Navy WAVES.
Mrs. Callahan was a teacher at Snug Harbor Elementary School in Quincy, MA for many years. In Braintree, she was a member of the Women's Club and the League of Women Voters. She was also a member of the Old Iron Sides Chapter of the Women Navy Veterans.
She was married to John D. Callahan who died in 1999.
IN HER LIFE: The family includes four children, Liane Hartnett and her husband, Paul of Newton, MA, Jan Litvin and her husband, Mike of Manchester, Jay Callahan and his wife, Maureen of Silver Spring, MD and Sheila Jacobson and her husband, Mark of Arlington, MA; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service took place Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Hillcrest Terrace, 200 Alliance Way, Manchester. Encryptment of cremated remains was private at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
