Elinor Cheney Thurber

January 28, 1933 — April 25, 2022

Elinor ("Ellie") Cheney Thurber, 89, of Manchester passed away April 25, 2022 after a short illness surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Manchester, NH January 1933, she was the daughter of Charles Henry and Madeline (Rollins) Cheney. She graduated from Concord High School, class of 1951, where she was an active member of the National Honor Society.

Her husband, Allen Thurber, was also a graduate from Concord High School, class of 1951. Although their paths did not cross in high school, they met four years later after Allen returned from the Navy. They married in 1958 and enjoyed a successful, loving marriage for 64 years.

After graduation, she began her career in banking working for Union Trust and Concord Savings, which were both located in Concord, NH.

Ellie enjoyed watching the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She enjoyed baking and hosting holidays, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her son, Douglas Thurber in 2009.

Family members include her husband of 64 years, Allen Thurber of Manchester; her children, Cynthia Pratte and husband Gregory of Manchester, Scott Thurber of Manchester, SgtMaj William Thurber, USMC (retired) and wife Melissa of Tampa, FL, Steven Thurber and wife Joanne of Framingham, MA; her grandchildren, Nicole Lapointe and husband John of Manchester, Matthew Pratte of Bow, Michelle Peterson and husband Eric of Manchester, Alexander, Nathan and Maggie Mae Thurber all of Framingham, MA; Emma and Zachary Thurber both of Tampa, FL; her great-grandchildren, Ellie and Reese Lapointe; nephews, nieces and cousins. Pallbearers include Scott, William, Steven, Gregory, Matthew and Alexander. Honorary pallbearers include Nathan and Zachary.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 11 am in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, followed by a reception with friends and family at the Manchester Country Club, Bedford NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 814 Elm St, unit 300, Manchester, NH 03101.
