Emerson F. Long, 83, of Manchester died January 22, 2005.
He was born on July 17, 1921 in New York, NY.
In World War II, he served in the Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as a private first class. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal and a Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Following the war he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He worked 25 years as a systems and procedures analyst for five major corporations and two federal agencies.
At age 56, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School. He then worked seven years at Lowell (MA) General Hospital as an outpatient alcoholism and general counselor.
After retiring he volunteered in numerous agencies and organizations including the Samaritans, Caregivers, Food Bank, nursing homes and Elliot Hospital. For many years he sang in the Elliot Hospital Associates Voluntaires.
The family includes a daughter, Wendy; a son, Brian; a daughter in law, Marianne; a grandson, Nicholas; a brother, James; a sister in law, Joan; and a nephew, niece and greatniece.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester assisted the family with arrangements.
