Ernest R. Gagnon

Ernest R. Gagnon Sr., 83, of Manchester, died February 8, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Manchester, after a lengthy illness.

He was born December 13, 1921 in Hudson, NH, and was the son of Eugene and Clara (Sirois) Gagnon. He lived in Hollis for a time and had been a Manchester resident for several years.

He worked as a truck driver for Nashua Motor Express and Law Motor Freight for many years.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 90th infantry division and the military police. He participated in the D-Day invasion and five other major campaigns from Normandy to Czechoslovakia. He was the recipient of the silver and bronze stars. In addition he was awarded the Honorary Diploma for the Liberation of Normandy by the French Government.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He loved hunting, fishing, was an avid gardener and baseball fan.

He leaves his wife, Phyllis (Warren) Gagnon of Litchfield; four daughters, Nancy Conrad and her companion, Maurice Leoar of Hudson, Diana and her husband Kenneth Forrence Sr. of Hudson, Brenda and her husband Christopher Cote of Newfield, NH, and Cheryl Martin of Nashua; two sons, Ernest R. Gagnon Jr.and his wife Debra of Nashua, and David Gagnon and his wife Mary of Brookline; several grandchildren; two sisters, Dora Pelletier and Florence Sirois, both of Nashua; nieces and nephews.

The funeral and burial was held Monday February 14, 2005 at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen..

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
