Eugene Richard Dean, 91, of Bedford, NH, and longtime resident of New Milford, NJ, died July 25, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born in Hackensack, NJ, on January 29, 1933, he was the son of Arthur F. Sr. and Jean (Dubonouski) Dean. He graduated from Hackensack High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Prior to his honorary discharge, he served as corporal in the United States Army in the Military Police (MP) during the Korean War.
A longtime employee in the paper industry, he worked as a shipping manager for Lowe Paper Company, Continental Can Company, and Stone Container.
Eugene loved supporting the Brooklyn Dodgers, the NY Giants, and more recently the NY Mets. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball, and coaching Little League for his two sons.
Devoted to his Catholic faith, he and his wife served as Eucharistic ministers for nearly 40 years.
Family members include his wife of 71 years, Christine (Ziegelhofer) Dean of Bedford; his children, Raymond Dean and wife Patricia of Brandon, VT, and their children, Christina and Carolyn, and great-grandchild, Alanna; Karen Iler and husband Kevin of Paramus, NJ, and their children, Daniel, Robert, and Jennifer; Janine Stuart and husband James of Riverview, FL, and their children, Eric and Christopher, and great-grandchildren, Serena and Patrick; Kenneth Dean and wife Deanna of Bedford, and their son, Edward; and his sister, Barbara Ziegelhofer of Hackensack, NJ. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur J. Dean Jr.
There are no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30th at noon in Sacred Heart Church, South Main Street, Manchester. Burial with military honors will follow in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
