Felix J. Stelmack

Felix J. Stelmack, 87, of Manchester, died March 19, 2008, surrounded by his family, at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton, NH after a period of declining health.

He was born in Webster, MA, August 14, 1920 and was the youngest of 13 children of Andrew and Catherine (Maika) Stelmack. He had been a resident of Manchester most of his life.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Sergeant and flight engineer on the B-17. He was in the battles of No Appenines Italy, Po Valley, central Europe and the Rhineland where he received the Air Medal and the EAME Theatre Campaign Ribbon with 4 battle stars.

Mr. Stelmack worked for 36 years as a field inventory supervisor for Public Service Co of NH, retiring in 1984.

He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an exceptionally gifted cribbage player.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 79 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5260. He had been a longtime communicant of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where he served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood Monastery.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Welch) Stelmack, who died in 2004 and by a son, Paul J. Stelmack, who died in 1987 and his wife Dolores "Dolly" (Gill) Stelmack who died in 2004.

Felix enjoyed his time spent at the NH Veterans Home and his family is grateful for the outstanding care he received from the staff and many friends he made there.

Family members include three children, Linda J. Healy of Manchester, Mark J. Stelmack of Gorham, ME and Cynthia A. Smith of Manchester; 8 grandchildren; a sister, Frances Maynard of Putnam, CT; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday March 25, 2008 at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester.

Burial with full military honors was held in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276.
