He was born in Manchester, June 30, 1924 the son of Alcide and Laurette (Gagne) Samson. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and the University of New Hampshire.
He owned and operated Samson Insurance Agency for many years.
Fern served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans for many years and served as a past State Commander of the CWV Department for the State of NH and also as a national trustee. He was past Commander of Post 1403, Sacred Heart Parish, and a member of CWV Post 1624. In 2005 he received the prestigious St. Sebastian Award from the CWV for more than 50 years of service. He also was past president of the Sacred Heart Parish Council; member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 92, and former president of Sacred Heart St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood.
He leaves two daughters, Jacqueline L. Koch of Massachusetts and Diane M. Simoneau of Goffstown; three sons, Richard A. Samson of Manchester, Robert G. Samson of Pembroke and Daniel D. Samson of North Kingstown, R.I.; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Therese (Gagne) Samson and by a son, Robert M. Samson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church. Encryptment followed in Mount Calvary Mausoleum.
